Music/piano lessons are wonderful and
very worthwhile! As well as teaching students to play and sing
beautiful music, they train children in many important areas of
character development: initiative, determination, and courage.
Initiative has been described in a
children’s book called Character Sketches as “expanding my
world by exploring new areas of interest.” Expressing an interest
in studying music for the first time shows initiative on the part of
a child. By registering your child for Music for Young Children
lessons, you are reinforcing your child’s ability to take
initiative, an important character trait for children and adults.
Determination sums up a lot of what it
takes to learn to play piano. Determination, “breaking down a
seemingly impossible task by concentrating on achievable goals,”
(Character Sketches) is made much easier through the Music for
Young Children curriculum for piano/music lessons. The large task of
learning to play piano and understand music theory and history has
been divided into achievable, age-appropriate lessons designed for
the child’s success. Determination is also “realizing that my
present struggles are essential for future achievement.” Learning
to play piano can bring plenty of struggles but the supportive, fun
group atmosphere of Music for Young Children classes aids in
overcoming those hurdles.
Courage has been described as
“confronting (a situation) with the confidence that I will
ultimately succeed.” Learning to play piano and sing in front of
other people at a recital definitely takes courage and again the
supportive group environment provides a useful stepping stone to
playing in front of strangers. Every week the children play piano
and sing in front of their group. They are also encouraged to and
rewarded for playing in front of other family, friends, etc.
regularly. These important factors contribute to their success in
piano recitals annually, which in turn contribute to their growing
confidence in presenting themselves in front of a group in many other
contexts.
Music for Young Children classes are
fun and enriching. Students learn in a supportive group atmosphere
and receive the encouragement of not only their teacher and their
parent but their classmates and their classmates’ parents. Praise
is very important to a music student’s success and in Music for
Young Children, students get lots of it. Music for Young Children
lessons give your child far more than music skills. They help you
train your child in some very important life skills of character
development. Music lessons are character building!

what do you think is better, online piano lessons or the good old fashioned human teacher?
This is a very good question and a lot of factors are involved in answering this question.
First, how old is the student? In an online piano lessons, it's all about receiving information and instruction and being able to process and understand them. A young child might not be able to get and realize the instruction in regards to touch and style over the online lesson.
Secondly, for an online piano lesson, they can't response to what you play. Style is all up to your own interpretation, so there won't be a lot of improvement and fingering mistake might occur without someone stopping you.
I personally prefer human teacher who can adjust to my physical ability and give me recommendation and suggestion that is relevant to me. Some people has bigger hands, and some have smaller. Some are more flexible and some aren't. As a piano teacher, I always adjust to the student's physical need and give proper suggestions.
Hopefully you'll be able to find a way to start music lesson.
